Supercomputing: Ein Exascale für 20 Megawatt...
... heißt die Richtschnur, nach der Supercomputer gebaut werden sollen. Nachdem die Japaner nun ihren Acht-Petafloper, den K Computer von Fujitsu, heute vorgestellt haben, der zehn Megawatt verbrauchte, um seine Weltrekordleistung zu erbringen, ist allen Entwicklern klar, dass sie das nächste Ziel nicht ohne eine massive Reduzierung des Stromverbrauchs - um den Faktor 300 - erreichen können. Bis 2018 soll die Klasse der Exascale-Rechner (1000 Petaflops) erreicht werden. Dann würde der Acht-Petafloper von Fujitsu nur noch 20 Kilowatt verbrauchen - das kann ein normales Rechenzentrum verkraften, meint Computerworld.
